Presidential Interdisciplinary Faculty Hiring Initiative in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence

Hiring Search for Faculty Position

Tenure-Track Assistant Professor
Data-driven Marine Conservation and Sustainability
Department of Marine Sciences
University of Georgia

The University of Georgia (UGA) is hiring seven tenure-track faculty in Environmental Artificial Intelligence (AI) through a Presidential Faculty Hiring Initiative with four positions that started in Fall 2022, and three positions to start in August 2023. The faculty positions are distributed within Franklin College of Arts and Sciences in the Departments of Geography, Marine Sciences, Statistics and Anthropology. The Environmental AI cluster will strengthen and expand UGA’s position as a global leader in atmospheric, terrestrial, and oceanic processes across wide-ranging spatial and temporal scales.
As part of the cluster hire, the Department of Marine Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor in Marine Conservation and Sustainability, who applies artificial intelligence to focus on the science of protecting, recovering and sustainably using coastal and marine resources. Possible research areas include (but are not limited to) fisheries management, marine protected areas, marine biodiversity, ocean health, and coastal adaptation strategies. The candidate’s research program should involve collection and analysis of large data sets, such as those from sensor networks and automated samplers.
