Join the Marine Sciences department on Connect Abroad! This is an exclusive one-week Spring Break experience for first year students. Travel to Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula with oceanographer Dr. Rivero-Calle to snorkel coral reefs, explore cenotes, and tour mangrove ecosystems. Discover how climate change, sea level rise, and ocean conservation impact coastal communities while learning about marine research, sustainable tourism, and local conservation efforts. You'll also visit an Indigenous Mayan community and participate in a traditional cooking class, gaining firsthand insight into local culture, coastal livelihoods, and the connections between people and the ocean. Take a look at our tentative itinerary to get a glimpse of what this adventure could include! Students will earn 1-hr in MARS 3900 Experiential Learning. This class can be applied to the Ocean Science major, and/or the Scientific Diving minor. Applications are due September 20, but students are encouraged to apply early as admissions are rolling.
