Brian Hopkinson and collaborators from other institutions have recently published a paper reporting new measurements on the chemistry of the calcifying fluid in corals. Corals deposit their mineral skeletons from a thin layer of fluid known as the calcifying fluid.

From a cohort of 17,000 applicants, competing for 2,000 NSF 5 year Graduate Research Fellowships, 13 were awarded to UGA students. And TWO of them were from our department. Congratulations to Meg Babcock-Adams and Sarah Harrison.

Jurjen Rooze and Ryan Sibert were awarded shared 1st and 2nd places for their poster presentations at the Southeastern Biogeochemical Symposium.

Mary Ann Moran, Patricia Medeiros and Aron Stubbins have an article appearing today in PNAS, the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, addressing both the complexities and innovations in the field of dissolved organic material in the world's oceans.  More…
