Image: Samantha Joye has had an exciting year so far! In addition to researching the Gulf of Mexico and the effects of offshore drilling for the Georgia Coast, she has also provided her scientific knowledge to BBC Earth and Alucia Productions. Alucia Productions teamed up with BBC Earth for "Planet Eath: Blue Planet II", and Samantha Joye was featured in a submersible as one of a very few people that has ever been able to see the brine pools of the ocean up close (the article image shows Mandy's partner in the submersible- Sylivia Earle). This coincides with her long-term research in the Gulf of Mexico. Speaking about the brine pools, she stated that "every single one of them is unique, and that means the microbiology is unique and could have very real potential for biotechnology and biomedical use.” The potential implications of these discoveries is exciting, and we are more than honored to have a connection to this research. The BBC series is presented by Sir David Attenborough and scored by Academy Award-winner Hans Zimmer. Samantha Joye didn't stop there, either. She is also featured in two digital shorts (co- produced by BB Earth and Alucia Productions): "The Future of the Oceans" and "Brine Pools: Exploring an Alien World". We look forward to any and all of Mandy's future projects, and have always seen the dedication and determination she has for our oceans and the planet as a whole.
