The Department of Marine Sciences does not offer a Marine Sciences major, but does participate in the Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) major offered through the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. The IDS program allows students to concentrate in Marine Biology, Marine Chemistry, Physical Oceanography, or other aspects of Marine Sciences. Students in the program live and take courses on the Athens campus, but can obtain field experience at our coastal facilities at the Skidaway Institute of Oceanography in Savannah and the UGA Marine Institute on Sapelo Island. Students majoring in Biology can also enroll in the Marine Biology Area-of-Emphasis. Finally, UGA undergraduates interested in a career in environmental science and management can also earn a Certificate in Water Resources. If you are interested in receiving email notification of improvements and new activities in UGA Marine Sciences Undergraduate program offerings, please sign up for our mailing list.
