The Department of Marine Sciences offers graduate degree programs at the Ph.D.and M.S. levels. We also offer graduate certificates in a wide range of disciplines, including Water Resources as well as Coastal Engineering, and participate in UGA's Integrated Life Sciences program.
We support our graduate students for the duration of their studies. In addition, tuition is waived, medical coverage is subsidized, and both Athens and Savannah have low costs of living compared to most university towns.
Program of Study
Detailed information about the program can be found in the Graduate Handbook. Typically it takes 2-3 years to complete the M.S. program and 5-6 years for the Ph.D. program.
Each January, we hold a recruitment event to which we invite a selection of applicants. For fullest consideration apply by the end of the year. For more information visit the above links or contact Cat Mills in the Department of Marine Sciences (706) 542-7162 (firstname.lastname@example.org).
There will be an invitation-only recruitment event January 18th-20th 2018, so interested individuals are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. In order to be considered for an invitation to the recruitment event, applications must be received no later than December 22nd. Invited recruits will visit both the Skidaway Institute and Athens campuses.
Finally, both Athens and Savannah offer many cultural and recreational opportunities, with a thriving music and art scene, and great restaurants (see e.g. the Flagpole Guide to Athens)
